Dr. Alexandra Paul named among 2025 Women of Excellence by Capital Region Chamber

Neurosurgeon Dr. Alexandra Paul has been honored by the Capital Region Chamber as one of the 2025 Women of Excellence. She was recognized for her professional achievements and dedication to community service, specifically in the category of Excellence in the Professions.

Dr. Paul is part of Albany Medical Center’s endovascular neurosurgery team and is noted for introducing advanced technologies to the region, enhancing stroke and brain tumor care. Alan S. Boulos, MD, Dean of Albany Medical College, stated, “Dr. Paul is an incredible member of our faculty and in a short time, has already left an indelible mark on the field of neurosurgery and the health of our region.” He further highlighted her reputation among colleagues, mentees, patients, and their families.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Paul holds several academic roles at Albany Medical Center. She is an associate professor, fellowship director, residency associate program director for neurosurgery, serves on the medical student admissions committee, and acts as Councilor to Alpha Omega Alpha – Theta Chapter.

Her research contributions include being a principal investigator for numerous trials focused on patient care quality and technology adoption in medicine. She also examines women's leadership roles within the profession and sits on the board of the local American Heart Association.

Dr. Paul's educational background includes graduating from Union College and earning her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her training included seven years at Albany Medical Center before she joined its faculty.

The award will be formally presented to Dr. Paul at a ceremony scheduled for May.
