The Digestive Disease Center at Albany Medical Center has recently been recertified by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) as an Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program (EURP). This recognition highlights the unit's dedication to providing top-quality, safe care centered around patients' needs, standing out as the sole national program that honors GI endoscopy units for such commitment.

In response to the acknowledgment, Dr. Seth Richter, a gastroenterologist and program director of Albany Medical College’s Gastroenterology Fellowship, stated, “We are proud to be recognized again as a center of excellence by our national endoscopy society.” He added, “This honor highlights the hard work of our qualified, loyal, and dedicated team, and reinforces that this is the place to be for a screening colonoscopy or for the diagnosis or treatment of any other gastrointestinal disease that requires an endoscopic procedure.”

The team at the Digestive Disease Center, consisting of nurses, gastroenterologists, and anesthesiologists, serves patients across all age groups, from newborns to the elderly. In the year 2024, they successfully conducted over 12,000 procedures.

To achieve EURP certification, programs need to satisfy the ASGE’s rigorous standards. This includes adhering to ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, as well as compliance with CDC infection control guidelines, and ensuring competency among endoscopy staff.
