Benjamin Schalet, MD will join the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Albany Medical Center, a member of the Albany Med Health System, on Feb. 1. He will also serve as the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery clerkship director for Albany Medical College students.
Dr. Schalet specializes in reconstruction after cancer. For patients who have mastectomies, he offers DIEP flap procedures, which use tissue from the abdomen to reconstruct the breast. In addition, he performs reconstruction after skin cancer surgery, and head and neck cancer reconstruction, including tongue, floor of mouth, and jawbone reconstructions utilizing advanced surgical planning techniques.
Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Schalet is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Following residency training in plastic surgery at Albany Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in breast and aesthetic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Most recently, he served as an attending plastic surgeon at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.
Dr. Schalet will see patients of all ages at Albany Medical Center’s Surgeons Pavilion, 50 New Scotland Ave., Floor 1, in Albany.
