On February 21, 2025, Tonko tweeted about his visit to Whitney Young Health Center in Albany. In this tweet, he stated: "As Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their GOP allies threaten to slash up to $2.5 trillion in federal funding for Medicaid, I visited @WhitneyYoungHC in Albany today to learn more about the devastating impact these cuts would have on our communities and all those who call them home."

In another tweet posted on the same day, Tonko criticized the proposed Medicaid budget cuts by saying: "Slashing Medicaid by $2.5 trillion isn’t just reckless. It’s a direct attack on the kids, seniors, and people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid for essential care - all to help Trump and his billionaire friends further line their own pockets. That is unconscionable."

Further emphasizing the importance of healthcare accessibility, Tonko stated: "Health care is a right, not a privilege for the wealthy few. Nearly 7 million New Yorkers rely on Medicaid – many of them through community health centers like this one.
