Paul Tonko, a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 20th district since 2009, has expressed concerns over various political issues in recent social media posts. He met with Canadian Premiers to discuss tariffs and criticized the GOP budget plan.
On February 12, 2025, Paul Tonko shared details of his meeting with Premiers Andrew Furey and Dennis King. In his tweet, he stated: "Great meeting with Premiers @FureyAndrew and @dennyking yesterday to discuss the harmful impact of Trump's proposed tariffs on U.S. and Canadian consumers. Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to a strong alliance and fair, mutually beneficial trade relations."
On February 13, 2025, Tonko commented on the GOP budget vote stating: "Today we’re voting on the GOP budget. This plan does nothing to lower costs for Americans—instead opting to gut Medicaid & healthcare programs all to line the pockets of their wealthiest donors. We will not accept this rip-off that hurts working families."
Later that day, he further criticized the Republican budget proposal: "With their budget, Republicans would destroy the programs that millions rely on for basic needs. Taking from Americans who are struggling to pay their energy bills, put food on their tables, and see a doctor—all to bankroll tax breaks for the rich—is a heartless betrayal."
