Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has called on the Biden-Harris Administration to support New York State’s disaster declaration request following Tropical Storm Debby, which caused significant damage in Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence Counties from August 8-10.

In her letter to the administration, Stefanik emphasized the importance of a major disaster declaration for restoring affected communities. "A major disaster declaration is critical to restoring these communities. I request that you swiftly consider and approve the State's request… The severity of the damage inflicted has left county and town governments scrambling to make repairs. With the continued interruptions to the community as repairs are made and winter weather rapidly approaching it is essential that these communities receive the help that this disaster declaration will provide," she wrote. Stefanik also noted her readiness to collaborate with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to deliver necessary support and resources.

Previously, Stefanik had sent another letter supporting an emergency declaration request specifically for damages inflicted by Tropical Storm Debby on homes and businesses within the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.
